The activities of the Bend CCL chapter focus on the five areas below. At our monthly meetings we plan activities and share the results of our efforts that are all, ultimately, aimed at facilitating a national carbon fee and dividend policy.

This work is all about building relationships.  We get to know on a first-name basis the Central Oregon-based staff of our three elected federal officials, Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Representative Greg Walden.  We seek meetings with both the staff and the officials themselves to discuss our policy proposal and to learn what their considerations related to carbon fee and dividend might be. Chapter members participate in the annual national conference in June in Washington DC and visit Congressional offices on the Hill to reinforce public support for this policy.

We engage in writing Letters to the Editor and Op-Eds for our local papers and meet with editorial boards to make sure they are well informed about our work. We also give radio and TV interviews and seek opportunities to get the word out as broadly as possible. Our goal is to build local awareness of the need to act on climate change and the policy proposal that will bring about the change that is needed.

The Bend CCL chapter takes advantage of the many opportunities to interact with the public in our community. We give talks at local community group meetings, staff tables with literature and exhibits at events such as Earth Day and the annual Labor Day picnic, and plan events such as film showings to bring people together to listen and learn.

It is particularly valuable to have the voices of business and community leaders heard in Washington.  That’s the way politics works!  We have been collecting signatures to a letter to Representative Walden encouraging him to engage in the discussions on climate that are ongoing in Washington DC.  In addition we ask our business and community leaders to speak up on their own about the need for climate action.

Our chapter has a slide show on global warming and why carbon fee & dividend is the best response. We adapt the presentation to the particular audience, but the core messages remain the same. The slide show is one of the most powerful ways to connect with people over this issue, and we are always happy to be asked to give a presentation.

Normally Bend CCL meets on the second Wednesday of the month in Bend from 5:30-7:30pm at Zpizza, 1082 SW Yates Drive in the "Rogue Room."

Social distancing demands that we meet virtually for now.  Please email info@citizensclimatebend.org for information on joining our meeting virtually.
